Clavicular and the Problem Looksmaxxing Can’t Solve

By JT Tran

Clavicular walked off a 60 Minutes interview because the host asked if he identifies as an incel. SNL has parodied him. Late night talk show hosts take potshots at him. And all the while, his Kick streams pull tens of thousands of viewers.

Editor’s note: This article was completed before Clavicular’s hospitalization for suspected overdose in Miami on April 14, 2026. We wish him a full recovery. Nothing below has been changed.”

But the moment someone asked a real question, he left the room. That is the problem looksmaxxing cannot solve.

I will be the first one to say it: looks do matter. I have been saying that since 2005, before Clavicular was born, before looksmax.org existed, before mewing and PSL ratings entered the vocabulary of every man with a Reddit account and a jawline complex. When dating coaches and PUA gurus were still saying looks, height, and race didn’t matter, I was the first to say that race did in fact matter.

Clavicular looksmaxxing with hammer and pills versus Asian dating coach attracting women with social skills

Looksmaxxing can get you noticed. It cannot make you interesting. The left side is where the forum leads. The right side is what happens when you build actual skills.

My name’s JT Tran, 5’4″ and Vietnamese American. I’m also a former aerospace engineer. I was so nerdy and bad with women that eHarmony once refunded my money and told me I was too cerebral to match. That is how bad I was. Since then I have approached over 10,000 women, coached over 1,000 men, and watched more than 100 of my students get married. I even officiated one of their weddings.

So I agree with Clavicular’s diagnosis. The halo effect is real. The dating market is harder than it has ever been.

Where I disagree is the prescription. Clavicular has been taking steroids at 14. Meth for hollow cheeks. Bone smashing. Benzos just to talk to women. Looksmaxxing identifies a real problem and then offers a solution that creates ten new ones. It’s all short term gains but at the cost of long term physical, mental and emotional health.

This article covers what Clavicular gets right about looksmaxxing, where his philosophy hits its ceiling, and what my 20 years of infield dating coaching reveals about what actually works after you have optimized your looks.

And I know what it’s like being short, ugly, fat and not meeting the Eurocentric standard of beauty. But I also know what it’s like to sleep with literally hundreds of beautiful women despite all of my supposed disadvantages.

What Clavicular Gets Right About Looksmaxxing

Clavicular correctly identified what the dating coaching industry denied for years. Looks matter. Race matters. Height matters. The data has always supported this, but mainstream pickup coaches had no incentive to admit it. Most of them were tall, conventionally attractive white men who could pad their numbers by sleeping with FOBBY Asian women and pretend game was all that mattered.

A University of Chicago study found that Asian men need to earn $247,000 more per year than a white man to get the same response rate on dating apps. OKCupid data showed Asian men received some of the lowest ratings of any demographic. The halo effect is peer-reviewed and real. Clavicular did not invent this observation. He just said it louder than anyone else and got famous for it.

Why I Respect Clavicular Despite Disagreeing With Him

I will say this directly: I respect the man.

His work ethic is real. His intellect is genuine. Clavicular has an engineering brain that processes research, biology, and pharmacology with a rigor most college professors would envy. On a stream with bodybuilder Larry Wheels and his wife, he accurately diagnosed the controlling and jealousy-inducing dynamics in their relationship and gave advice that was sharper than what most licensed therapists would offer on camera. In that moment, he was coaching. And he was good at it.

That is what makes his trajectory so frustrating. The talent is there. The application is pointed at the wrong variable.

Softmaxxing vs. Looksoptimization

The looksmaxxing community calls the basics of enhancing your looks as “softmaxxing“: better grooming, fashion, skincare, fitness.

I call it looksoptimization. Same foundation, but without the forum-brain obsession that turns self-care into a disorder. There is a difference between being good looking and looking good. One you’re born with and the other you can control like skincare, hairstyle and fashion. It’s also just a lot healthy in both the physical and emotion health aspect.

Softmaxxing is the part of looksmaxxing that actually has value. Where it goes wrong is when it becomes an identity instead of a tool.

Every woman has what I call a fuckable line. It is the baseline threshold of physical attractiveness where she becomes open to conversation. An average guy sitting at a five can reach a seven through deliberate looksoptimization. Good hair and good fashion alone can get you a plus-two jump. That is not theory. I have watched it happen with thousands of students across 20 years of hairstyle upgrades and wardrobe overhauls.

However, once you cross that line, looks stop being the deciding variable. That is the part Clavicular and the entire looksmaxxing community refuse to talk about.

The Clavicular 60 Minutes Interview Showed the Ceiling

Clavicular told the 60 Minutes Australia host that character, personality, and intelligence are “all perceived entirely differently based on your looks.” That is a half-truth. The halo effect means attractive people get the benefit of the doubt in first impressions. It does not mean personality becomes irrelevant once you cross the looks threshold. Instead, it means personality is perceived more generously. That is an advantage to use, not a replacement for having actual social skills.

In that same interview, Clavicular could not articulate what he was looksmaxxing for beyond a vague “quality of life.” When the host asked if he was happy, his answer was that he would rather be at a club. When pressed on whether he felt responsible for vulnerable followers, he deflected. And when asked about the incel community, he walked off set.

The irony is visible even on camera. Clavicular is 6’2″, lean, and by any looksmaxxing metric has ascended. Yet he is also visibly uncomfortable in conversation, deflects personal questions with hostility, and ended a national television interview because the questions required emotional honesty instead of pharmaceutical knowledge.

Clavicular’s Own Forum Posts Tell the Full Story

On looksmax.org, Clavicular wrote that he dreads getting haircuts because he cannot handle 30 minutes of small talk with a barber. In another post, he shared a guide on how to say fewer than 50 words per day. According to his own account, he wakes up 30 minutes early to avoid seeing his parents, eats at obscure times to skip family meals, and skips lunch entirely to avoid the social stigma of eating alone.

His dating app struggles are equally revealing. Clavicular made a YouTube video about how frustrated he is that women ghost him mid-conversation. In his own words: “There’s no feedback system. They’ll just stop texting you out of nowhere.” To cold approach women, he takes pregabalin and blephin. For sexual performance, he requires multiple medications to counteract the erectile dysfunction caused by his steroid use. Looksmaxxing gave Clavicular followers and fame. It did not give him the ability to connect with another person for longer than it takes to swipe right.

Meanwhile, I am 5’4″, two decades older than Clavicular, and not conventionally attractive by any sexual market value rating system. Here is what happens when you have actual social skills and the confidence to use them.

The Looksmaxxing Endpoint Nobody Talks About: Racemaxxing

If you follow looksmaxxing logic to its conclusion for men of color, the ultimate optimization would be to change your race entirely. That is not a strawman. That is the math.

The data shows white men get the highest response rates on dating apps. Looksmaxxing is about changing your appearance for maximum dating ROI. Therefore, the logical action for a man of color would be to bleach his skin, get eye surgery for bigger eyes, bleach his hair, and do whatever else it takes to appear Caucasian.

I call this racemaxxing. It is the endpoint that nobody in the looksmaxxing community wants to acknowledge, because it exposes the Eurocentric racism baked into the entire framework of looksmaxxing.

Anyone actually doing that would suffer deep psychological damage.

We all know this instinctively. And that is precisely the point. PSL ratings, hunter eyes, gonial angles: all Western-gaze metrics presented as universal scientific law. They are one cultural framework dressed up as biology. This does not only damage men of color. White men who do not fit the 6’2″ square-jaw Chad template are being told by the same community that they are genetically worthless too. The framework eats everyone who does not win the genetic lottery according to its own narrow definition.

Kpopmaxxing: The Alternative to Eurocentric Looksmaxxing

Conventional beauty standards are not global. K-pop dismantled the Western monopoly on male attractiveness. A whole generation of women grew up responding to a completely different template of what makes a man attractive: stylish, emotionally expressive, unapologetically Asian. I call this Kpopmaxxing. Instead of optimizing toward whiteness, you build presence and confidence as a man of color on your own terms. Be successful because you are an Asian man, not in spite of it.

On our LatinTour, Asian men who embraced Kpopmaxxing got results that looksmaxxing forums would say are impossible for their demographic. Women approached them. At certain clubs they got treated like celebrities. The reason was not money or height. It was Asian men with K-pop influenced style and actual social skills in environments where that combination carries real status.

Why Limb Lengthening Surgery Fails Where Social Skills Succeed

I have spoken with men who chose the other path. Men who did limb lengthening surgery were laid up for one year at minimum, more often two. Quality of life took a nosedive in every direction: physical, mental, emotional, relationships with family. They gained two to four inches and it did not move the needle on their dating lives. All of that pain and expense for a result that social skills would have delivered in a single weekend.

What Actually Changes Your Dating Results After Looksmaxxing

The Holistic ABCDEF Dating System

The Holistic ABCDEF Dating System

Once you cross the fuckable line, charisma, presence, humor, and emotional calibration take over. These are learnable skills, not personality traits you are born with. They can be trained in a weekend through a structured system like the ABCDEF framework and refined over a lifetime. And unlike a jaw surgery that costs $35,000 and six months of recovery, they compound instead of depreciate.

My best dating period was when I had the dad bod. Women did not love the dad bod specifically. Rather, that was the period where I had invested the most in my mental health, my social skills, and my confidence. I was showing up as a complete person instead of a man who spent six months in the gym hoping his body would do the talking for him. More plates do not equal more dates. I am living proof.

The Students Who Proved Looksmaxxing Has a Ceiling

At a New York City bootcamp, a former virgin pulled two college girls on his second night. He had no steroids, no surgery, and no PSL optimization. Three days of skills training and real-world practice with a coach standing next to him giving real-time feedback changed everything. That is the difference between reading about swimming on a forum and actually getting in the pool.

Skills That Transfer Beyond Dating

Kevin Kreider from Netflix’s Bling Empire came through our program thinking he already had good game. After the bootcamp, he said the skills were so systematically structured that he started applying them unconsciously. The confidence and social calibration transferred directly into his business, his sales, and every interaction in his life.

That is the difference between looksmaxxing and building a complete skillset. Clavicular’s bone smashing does not help you in a job interview, negotiate a raise, lead a team, or raise children who believe in themselves. The Inner Game and social skills you build through real-world practice help with all of it.

If You Have Been on Looksmax.org and Still Are Not Getting Dates

You have done the softmaxxing. Maybe you have considered hardmaxxing. You know what PSL means and you have spent hundreds of hours on forums rating strangers and measuring your own face. And you are still not getting dates.

The effort was not wasted. Looksoptimization is real and it matters. But the bottleneck is not your canthal tilt. It is the same thing Clavicular struggles with on camera: the ability to hold a conversation, read a room, project confidence, and make someone feel something other than awkwardness.

Closing that gap requires the emotional resilience to learn a real skillset and expose yourself to real-world feedback from real people. Forums cannot give you that. Mirror time cannot give you that. Jawline measurements cannot give you that.

Even Brad Pitt got left by his fiancee for a wealthier man.

Looks are not the end all be all. The variable you have not trained is the one that actually determines outcomes above the looks threshold: social skills, emotional calibration, and presence. The ability to walk up to a woman, hold eye contact, say something real, and make her laugh. That is what the looksmaxxing community cannot teach you, because it requires doing the one thing Clavicular has spent his entire life avoiding. Talking to people.

From Black-Pilled to 50 Women: What Clavicular’s Method Could Not Deliver

Matt was fully black-pilled when he signed up for our Dallas bootcamp. After one weekend, he watched men the internet told him were undateable walk up to women and pull. One year later he sent me this:

If you are ready to build the skills that looksmaxxing cannot give you, watch what happens when a 5’4″ man approaches a woman with actual confidence. Then decide if the problem was ever really your face.

What to Do This Week Instead of Hardmaxxing

If you want to take real action instead of spending another night on the forums, start with looksoptimization: get a haircut that actually fits your face shape, upgrade three wardrobe pieces where fit matters more than brand, and start a basic skincare routine (wash, moisturize, sunscreen, done). Those changes alone can push you a full two points on any attractiveness scale. Then do the one thing the looksmaxxing community will never tell you to do: approach one woman this weekend. Walk up, make eye contact, say something real. It does not have to be clever. It just has to happen. Those four actions will do more for your dating life in two weeks than two years of forum posts and PSL ratings ever did.

Clavicular Is the Best Case Scenario for Looksmaxxing. Look at What It Cost Him.

Clavicular is the best-case scenario for looksmaxxing. Tall, lean, internet-famous, and making real money from his appearance. He also takes benzos to approach women, needs medication to perform sexually, risking overdosing, and walked out of a television interview because the questions required something his pharmaceutical stack could not provide: the ability to sit with discomfort and respond like a man who is actually confident.

Here is what I want the looksmaxxing community to understand about the man they follow. Clavicular is an entertainer.

Not a coach. He has said so himself. On one of his streams, he laughed at his audience for buying his merch and admitted it was a quick cash grab. That is not the behavior of someone who has your best interest in mind. That is someone building a brand on your insecurity and being honest about it when the camera is on.

Why Clavicular’s Trajectory Should Concern You

I say this with genuine respect for his intellect and his grind. But respect does not mean silence when the trajectory is dangerous.

The looksmaxxing community is full of young men who are isolated, body-dysmorphic, and convinced they are genetically worthless. That belief is a loaded gun. And Clavicular, for all his scientific knowledge, is not a therapist, not a counselor, and not someone who has ever claimed to prioritize the mental health of his audience. If it has not happened already, it is only a matter of time before someone in that community acts on the despair that the ideology breeds.

That is not a prediction I make lightly. It is one I make because I have spent 20 years sitting across from men who felt exactly that way before they found something that actually worked.

If that is what ascending looks like, it is worth asking what you are actually climbing toward. And if you have been climbing and still feel like you are getting nowhere, the problem was probably never the mountain. It was what you packed for the trip.

I have had that conversation with over a thousand men. If you want to have it too, book a free discovery call. No sales pitch. No pressure. Just a real conversation with a real coach about what is actually standing between you and the results you want. We will diagnose your specific obstacles and map out exactly how to tackle them. A free, no-strings attached discovery call of fifteen minutes on the phone with someone who has been doing this for 20 years will tell you more about your situation than two years on any forum ever could.

Frequently Asked Questions About Clavicular and Looksmaxxing

Who is Clavicular?

Clavicular is a 20-year-old looksmaxxing influencer and streamer whose real name is Braden Peters. He promotes extreme physical optimization methods including testosterone use starting at age 14, bone smashing, and pharmaceutical stacks. He appeared on 60 Minutes Australia in April 2026 and walked out of the interview after being asked about the incel community.

What is Clavicular’s real name?

Clavicular’s real name is Braden Peters. Born in December 2005 to a wealthy family in the northeastern United States, he attended an all-boys private high school and began using anabolic steroids at age 14. After posting extensively on looksmax.org, he was expelled from college when another forum user sent his post history to campus administrators and a room search uncovered illegal substances. As of 2026, he streams on Kick and is the most recognized figure in the looksmaxxing community.

What happened in the Clavicular 60 Minutes interview?

Clavicular appeared on 60 Minutes Australia and left mid-interview after the host asked whether he identifies with the incel community. He called it “the worst sequence of questions I’ve ever heard” and walked off set after accusing the host of trying to make the conversation political.

Does looksmaxxing work for dating?

Softmaxxing, which includes grooming, fashion, fitness, and skincare, genuinely improves dating outcomes by raising your baseline attractiveness. However, 20 years of coaching data shows that social skills, confidence, and presence become the dominant factors once you cross a baseline looks threshold. Looks get you noticed. They do not make you interesting.

What is the difference between softmaxxing and hardmaxxing?

Softmaxxing refers to non-invasive improvements like better grooming, fashion, skincare, and fitness. Hardmaxxing involves extreme measures such as plastic surgery, steroid use, bone smashing, or limb lengthening surgery. Softmaxxing has clear benefits with low risk. Hardmaxxing carries serious physical and psychological consequences with diminishing returns for actual dating results.

What is the PSL scale?

PSL is a rating system used on looksmaxxing forums to score physical attractiveness based on facial features like jawline, canthal tilt, and cheekbone prominence. The scale relies primarily on Western Eurocentric beauty standards and does not account for cultural variation in what different populations find attractive.

Does bone smashing work?

There is no peer-reviewed evidence supporting bone smashing as a method for improving facial structure. Clavicular himself has acknowledged that effects are likely temporary swelling rather than permanent bone growth. Medical professionals consistently advise against it, and the risk of serious injury outweighs any potential cosmetic benefit.

Do looks matter more than personality in dating?

Looks matter for initial attraction and crossing a baseline threshold. However, research on the halo effect shows that once someone finds you physically acceptable, traits like confidence, humor, and social calibration become the primary drivers of attraction. A man at a seven with strong social skills will consistently outperform a man at a nine who cannot hold a conversation.

What is looksoptimization?

Looksoptimization is the practical, non-extreme approach to improving your physical appearance. It covers hairstyle, skincare, fashion, and fitness. The goal is to cross the fuckable line, the threshold where women are open to conversation, without the psychological and physical risks of hardmaxxing. Think of it as softmaxxing but healthier: self-improvement without self-destruction.

What is Kpopmaxxing?

Kpopmaxxing is a framework for building an attractive identity rooted in Asian masculinity rather than Western Eurocentric beauty standards. K-pop dismantled the Western monopoly on male attractiveness, and Kpopmaxxing uses that cultural shift to build style, presence, and confidence as a man of color on your own terms rather than optimizing toward whiteness.
