Hey Juggyng,

I just finished the 3 DVD set for Senshido - Get Real Seminar and I wanted to post the review of this seminar for my fellow bros out there.

First off, they deliver pretty fast even with the regular option. I got it within a week. So kudos for the delivery.

Here is my summary of the content covered on the Get Real DVD set:

1. Psychological: diffuse, pattern intterrupt, and lastly explode into opponent
2. protect your center line, control the opponent by using the shred technique
3. Engage with feral intention (your intention is practically to kill the opponent..do or die)
4. Understand the situation you are in. environment, how many people, weapons,
5. Close the gap for the shred...understand sensitivity training when engage with opponent.
6. Always Take control of the situation.
7. There are no techniques.

Con: I think they could have edited the content a little better when they showed the students practicing. It was a little sloppy. It is home video style recording. On the 3rd DVD in particular, there was a lot of dead time where the camera was placed on the floor for a long time and I had to fast forward thru it.

The instructor Rich knows his stuff about real combat. I am going to compare him to my Wing Chun Sifu for this review. In fact, I swear he must have met or trained with my Sifu b/c some of his lecture comes exactly from the lectures from my Sifu. How he jokes about other styles and how to really engage a fight.

Really, this is a great introduction for a beginner to start. He starts off with the psychological aspects of engagement and how you should diffuse the fight first if you can and then engage when there is no choice. He explains that every scenario will always be different and Awareness is key to surviving engagement. Note: I said surviving, NOT WINNING,..sometimes you can't win all your fights but you can survive.

I like how he talks about how you need to close the gap in the fight, using psychological and BLP to do it. This allows you to take the weapon from your opponent or minimize the damage he will inflict on you. When you shred, you can practically do this closing your eyes b/c you are connected to him and using natural sensitivity to control him. I get that b/c in Wing Chun, closing the gap(it is kinda like APB's Silencer move) is very important and we use "chi sao" to practice our sensitivity...it allows us to control our opponents in close quarters and understand natural human instincts.

I really think this is a great place to start . For me, some of the material I already knew but it was a great review. This stuff is very lethal and not for the faint of heart. Definitely you do not need to train your ass off like other martial arts. It is actually reminding us of our primal survival instincts-- fight or flight skills. We instinctly have the ability to do all of this..we have just been socially condidtioned not to.

I will review the Shredder Package later on. I hope this helps for those who are curios.

Hey ,SC, I like ur review from an outsider's point of view. Sometimes, one needs a reality check to keep a tribal group from getting insular and not growing Very Happy.Thank you.

Well it was a seminar LOL . would you rather have a combat DVD that is polished but has no substance and teaches you nothing or an underground Combat DVD that is cheap to keep the price low but has functionally combative styles that u can learn, add to ur base style SC..Note Shredder is most effective in the trapping, Extreme Close Quarter combat, clinching, and grappling range...don't force it when you are in kicking range...sounds like the ABCs of Attraction's philosphy Johnny,Mancannon and Gatsby keep telling me Very Happy ! that's funny.

That's one of the things I like about rich's DVDs SC, there are no edits ,he says that once it goes physical there are no guarantees...If someone wants you dead, you'll eat it...there are so many criminal methods to whack people sigh. U can only enhance ur chances of going home to sarge againg the next night. Any system that promises to make you invincible and fear noone is bs..Even JT doesn't close 100%.
EG say Krav instructor is explaining and then applying X tech to a knife jig and he fucks up, and gets stabbed. Well, then the instructor can just redit the instructional DVd so he does his def tactic very fancy, flowing, and pretty. but in the street, facing real world violence, it's chaotic, messy, brutal, and sloppy as hell. That's why rich prefers to just shoot straight through, "no do evers", bc that's how PP guys will look when first learning and practicing any skill. Sloppy. gys will make mistakes and get "killed" in the training rather than in the world. Personally I'd prefer a raw looking dvd that has KISS combatively functional material rather than a overpriced , and polished DVD from X system where they edit every thing to perfection and show more flash than substance...
And as for the shredder, since one's response must parallel the threat level, you don't break an Amog's neck bc he's just shit talking at u, or u will end up in prison getting ass raped for the next ten years...The shredder can be ramped up from LEOfficer compliance and conttrol -eg giving a pushy AMOG who's all mouth a face scrubbing, to maiming to lethal force according to the threat SC.

Hmm, so SC, what did u come up with to Rich's question ? If u were given only 2 options. To have all the physical skills of Bruce Lee, Bill Superfoot Wallace, Chuck Liddell, Delta Trooper in their prime OR only an emotional/psy arsenal like awareness of Criminal predator/prey dynamics, awareness and avoidance strategies, psywarfare and psychology in relation to violence, the 3 assumptions when attacked 1) perp is armed 2)perp has friends u haven't scoped out 3) Assume any attack is a weapons attack since most vics who are stabbed thought they were judt punched...the 3 things a criminal wants from u,verbal descalation and counterambush psy tactics...Which skillset would u choose StrayCat Wink ? As ur a PUA, I have a pretty good idea than my regular students...except for Mancannon, Gatsby and Johnny W Very Happy .

That emotional evocation drill Rich and rob did on each other and rob did to the women to produce the same emotions in an assault was disturbing but a necessary drill.

And that nightclub venue scenario is as close to training for real world club /bar venue assaults as possible without serious injury man....Chaotic, brutal, viscious and sloppy as hell, like real throwdowns.
Pretty quick skill set learning and application from witnessing the newbies being able to use a portion of the sen system in a 8 hr seminar....I was the dude who was wearing white elbow pads at the one day semi and one of the role playing aggressors....Good feeling to see people who at first don't believe they can overcome violence to seeing that new confidence and positive energy when they realize realize that it is possible to learn PP/H2Hcombat in order to go home to see their loved ones . Twisted Evil
later bro, have 14 more women to talk to for as long as possible Sad .

Again, anyone who wants to get this area of their life handled quickly and effectively in LA, San Fran,LV area... please email my LEO SWAT bud TEd universible@gmail.com for info

I posted this on the socallair forums and thought I'd put it here too.

I've done Senshido and I think it and all the other RBSD (reality based self defense) systems are great.

However, you need to keep practicing full contact and keep at it. It's not like riding a bike where you can simply recall it at a moments notice. In addition to doing the RBSD, I also recommend doing martial arts with a lot of contact and sparring. I do MMA, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Kali and JKD. All these systems stress "aliveness" where you're constantly fighting a resisting opponent. Moreover, you have to get used to getting hit, tackled, etc. Things with hard contact, so you're used to it.

I'm not a big guy and only weigh about 150 lbs but I've choked out guys and knocked them down in real situations. I credit that to my MMA and jiu-jitsu more than anything.

the senshido dvd sets are really good and comprehensive. I also recommend a company from england called "streetfightsecrets." The instructor was a real member of the british SAS who teaches the SAME hand to hand course he taught to SAS men. Do a search for them on youtube.

BTW -- This SAS guy is also an expert in NLP, something everyone in the seduction community uses too. In the DVD he talks about the use of NLP for self defense situations.

yeah, practicing would be helpful..Juggyng teaches personal protection out in New York I think.

I have not practice for awhile...but I have over 10 years of training in martial arts. I rarely use it b/c i am such a nice guy. But it's still there when I get real angry like the "incredible hulk"...I guess I am passive aggressive. ha ha...
