So I'm headed to Tokyo for a solo vacation in the Fall, (I will be meeting friends on certain days, but I'll have a lot of time solo, as well).

Anyone have any tips? One website I read said to laid in Japan, you have 1) be white 2) go to a bar 3) stand there. Something tells me it's not THAT easy, and that its reputation is more like Vegas, where everyone says they got laid, but only half of them have.

One thing I am thinking about though are any subtle cultural differences. Is it unacceptable to kino? Is it acceptable to buy a drink (for a situation where I'd have to move her to the bar)? In a club here, it's common to lead a girl through it by taking her hand and guiding her, would that freak a girl out over there?

Also, I'm wondering how I should dress. I could play it up like it's Los Angeles with my leather jacket and leather cowboy hat, or I could wear a formal suit, and still stand out with my ponytail.

I read that foreigners are quite common in Tokyo, but you still stand out as a novelty. Kids will say hello to you because they just learned it in school, teenage girls will want to get their picture taken with you. Hell, I don't know if I really want to "sarge" while there, I'm just excited to be going to Asia for the first time, but if something comes up, I'll definitely roll with it.

Lastly, I don't even know why I'm helping you out DougieB because I personally don't like you. But I know how it is having a lot of expectations going abroad so here I am. Happy travels.

Thanks and...??? I guess you're always bound to piss someone off.

I agree, although I tend to only do it as a method to move and not an act of "can I please, please please buy you a drink?????"

I was asking in the context of Japan because drinking means different things in different countries. Here it can be a sign of "I like you," yet when I lived in Ireland, if someone bought me a drink(guy or girl), I was expected to buy another one back sometime that night.

MintyFresh,

Interesting video. I think here in the west Japanese women have a reputation of being too easy or the stereotype that if a westerner goes to Japan he will be up to armpits with girls. It's good to see a western actually depicting an a different view point.

Thanks Minty,

That's a good insight. It sounds like all of the guys who told me "Yeah, you're going to get LAID!!!!" are full of crap, and just like Vegas, the girls you can get pretty easily aren't the greatest of the bunch (just like the rest of the world, actually).

That is good to know about the number-closing, and how over there it doesn't mean nearly as much as it does here. And it's good to know that when a girl's talking to you, it might just be more for the novelty of practicing English than anything else. It basically seems that what we may perceive as IOI's really aren't.

Holy crap, that was a music video? The setup looked like one of those straight to video T&A movies I used to rent as a teenager. I remember in high school, some buddies from Tokyo brought back all of these porno mags that had 15 year old girls. Granted, I was the same age so it wasn't as creepy, but I'd get arrested for having those mags today.

Hey DougieB,

I just got back from Tokyo this week and can share some feedback.

The district you probably want to hitup is Roppongi. This is the area where many of the visitors and expats play, and where local Japanese girls go hunting for gaijin(foreign) sausage. 2 of my buddies recommended the GasPanic bar, I went to the one in Roppongi (there are several) and it's a definitely a hookup spot. I also went to a Super Bowl party and noticed there were Japanese girls who seemed especially interested in foreigners, although many girls were on the "homely"ier side. (I'm pickier with Asian girls)

Being white with blonde hair is definitely a big plus there. However, I do agree with the video earlier that being able to lay a hotter, or classier girl is a different and more difficult story. I'm not sure how your Japanese is but how fluent you are matters for the classier/hotter girls.

I think your LA leather jacket cowboy hat is fine. They dress very fashionably and you will see hip Tokyoites dress in some edgy/sometimes crazy outfits. There were some scandalous-scantily clad girls who looked like manga characters on the trains lol.

Congrats on your 1st trip to Asia. You will do well. Tokyo will be an experience, it's such a fascinating culture and people...
