the Price of playing it safe

With one day to go with Gareth in LA, I am having a major challenge in meeting girls on the street. Day game is fine in book stores and the like. Even the right words come out....your cute...just had to say hello...your name is...
But with a girl walking away, or with two girls walking together...most difficult. Getting the right distance, opening my hands and getting a ladys attention without an angry response is as yet, not attained my me.
Any suggestions ?
