Hey guys,

anyone know of any good cure for pimples? I'm on proactive, it's working ok but still not bringing back to perfect.

I think my 6 hour sleeping habits have something to do with it (but don't all accountants lack sleep? LOL)

any ideas guys?

Well, there are many factors that contribute to acne outbreaks. Are yours an everyday thing or do they pop up every once in a while? Sleeping habits, stress, and our diet all affect your skin. Eating greasy food everyday will certainly lead to oily skin and pimples. You should get more sleep, but there are other things you can do. Proactiv is one of the best solutions on the market but it's not for everyone since body make up and skin types are different for everyone.

Using a spot treatment product can help reduce the appearance on pimples and outbreaks. A favorite of mine is Clean and Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment. Using a facewash with salicylic acid helps kill the bacteria that live in pimples. I use Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash. I also like the Clean and Clear strips that you can put on your nose, chin, and forehead. These help clear out clogged pores and blackheads. Make sure to use them after a hot steamy shower so your pores are open.

A note of caution: It can take a long time to find the right products to control your outbreaks. However, switching to different facewashes and creams to often can harm your skin's natural properties. So try using a product for a few weeks, if you don't see the desired results, then try a new one. Also, washing your face excessively can strip away the natural oils. If your face is feeling extra dry and flaky, give it a rest from all of the products.

For the absolute best results, a dermatologist would be able to help. This would depend upon your budget restraints of course.
Hope this helps!

Yes, there is a cure for acne. I got a prescription from my dermatologist back when I was in my 20s. The drug is very serious and for serious acne. If your acne is not that bad, i dont recommend it.

Having a disciplined diet can fix the problem without medication. No Junk Food, No greasy foods...like Chinese food, burgers, beef...no oily foods.
I suggest eating fish and chicken...And lots of salads...reduce your salt and sugar intake too.

So you were wondering what kind of medication I had to take....Accutane...it works but it will dry up your skin while you are on it..so avoid sunlight, your doctor will also give you some antibiotics too, Accutane causes birth defects too if you plan you to have babies while on the medication.

But yeah..accutane works and is powerful stuff. oh yeah, avoid sunlight...you will be a like a vampire in the sunlight. No alcohol as well.
When you are on accutane, you can rub as much grease on face and not breakout :D .

I would recommend Tea tree oil. Its great coz it kills the bacteria that causes the acne. Tea tree oil comes from Australia and it is an oil that kills almost anything tiny. (bacteria, fungi, virus)

Scientifically speaking, if you are not going to go the prescription medicine route which is fraught with it's own problems and side effects, then what you need to combat acne and pimples are two products.

1. Salicylic Acid 2% - opens clogs pores, prevents clogging of pores, eliminates bacteria (pre-pimple condition)
2. Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5% to 10% - kills acne bacteria (does dry your face so a moisturizer would also be good)

All other considerations- brand, label, etc- are of secondary concern. You can go to any local drug store and purchase any two facial cleaners so long as one has the SA active ingredient and the other the BP ingredient.

This is only face maintenance so if there are other factors like genetics, health conditions, et al at play then you may want consult a dermatologist. If you have health insurance from your job, I say go for it as there are non-invasive treatments that can help (cortisol shots to reduce swelling on your face, chemical peels, etc).

Sarah Ann:I tried a lot of things when i was in high school and Proactive seems to be the one controlling it. But lately i think work stress and lack of sleep have really been pushing it. It used to be manageable. Once in a while but then~~~~ BAM now i'm stuck with 1 a day== kinda sucks. I think my best chances right now are sleeping more.

Straycat: haha i tried that in high school. Only thing is... I love my basketball and soccer haha. When i had it during high school, i was playing soccer everyday at like 2pm LOL So yea, it kinda burned myskin and made it worst== I should consider it now though.. since i'm always indoor...

Asian playboy: I guess it's time to do some scouting for products with those things. Genetics is kinda working against me on this - my grandma and mum still has pimples LOL ==...

Thanks guys for your comments!~ i think chances are i'm going to find a new product(s) [although i've tried heaps], change my sleeping habits and most likely.. consult a professional.

Cheers!

SuitedCC,

I used to have the same exact problem. I had lots of blemishes on one side of my forehead. I tried everything; proactiv, cut my hair short, washing my pillow case every week. What finally worked was that I went to this facial lady who also does acne treatment. Basically, she squeeze out the blackheads and the "would be" blemishes with an extractor and recommended a face wash for sensitive skin. She also put me on this vitamin A liquid that I use every night. I stopped using the vitamin A stuff after a couple month but I've been using the face wash ever since. My acne is very well controlled right now.

Each treatment is about $70...and I've had 4 (because my acne was REALLY bad).

Call around, look up facial/acne on yelp.

EXTRACT FROM CBS NEWS (please do not sue me)
Source: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/06/ ... 8084.shtml

(CBS) Over 90 percent of teenagers have a bout with acne, but it's not just an adolescent problem -- more than 50 percent of adults also suffer from blemishes.

Despite all the antibiotics prescribed for acne (Tetracyclin, Doxycyclin, Accutane -- to name a few) in many cases, the acne returns, and is considered incurable. Patients are often coached on how to "live with it" or "accept themselves the way they are."

Aside from the physical discomfort, acne patients can suffer serious psychological trauma. They feel ashamed of their appearance, and some even feel the acne is their fault. And of course, this kind of stress tends to aggravate the acne and make breakouts worse. It's a vicious cycle.

Adding to this vicious cycle are several myths about acne. Some of the more popular myths include: greasy foods cause acne; chocolate causes acne; zits are caused by dirt; the more you scrub, and dry-up your skin, the less you'll break out.

Dr. Terry Dubrow, a plastic surgeon based in Newport Beach, Calif., says first a patient must understand the true origins of acne (genetic) and then find a proper cure. He visits The Early Show on Thursday to shed some light on the subject.

According to Dr. Dubrow, acne has four distinct stages, and you must attack all four in order to wipe it out. The stages are:
Dry cells mixed with sebum and block the pores;
Sebum ballon builds up behind the clog;
Bacteria infect the build-up
Curative inflammation spreads the condition.

In an effort to combat all four, Dr. Dubrow has come up with the Acne Cure. The following is his Acne Cure program:

Step 1 SALICYLIC ACID. (Morning and night) Clean away excess dead cells and bacteria from the skin's surface, without over-drying it. The best ingredient to wash your face with is a 2 percent salicylic acid product (widely available in drugstores). Put a penny-size amount in the palm of your hand, add a few drops of warm water, lather, and massage (in circular motion) to affected areas. Let the SA sit for a few minutes, then gently wash off with warm water. The SA has two benefits: an anti-inflammatory, and an antioxidant for the skin's surface.

Step 2 GLYCOLIC ACID. (Only in the morning) After you've rinsed away the SA product, apply 8-10 percent glycolic acid product, in an identical manner. Let it sit and wash it off with warm water. The benefits of GA: digs deeper down (while the SA cleans the surface) to loosen "cemented-in" plugs.

Step 3 BENZOYL PEROXIDE (Only at night) Wash off SA and run an ice cube over the affected areas, to cool and soothe (be careful not to freeze the skin!) Apply the BP (kept cold in refrigerator), but run ice cube across palm of hand, so product doesn't warm up when you rub and apply to face (in identical manner as the SA and the GA). Leave the BP on for 10 minutes, and lie down with ice packs on the affected areas (opens pores, reduces inflammation, relaxes you). When you're through, wipe off excess BP with a soft cloth. Allow the rest to sit overnight.

Step 4 MOISTURIZER (Morning and throughout the day) Apply an oil-free moisturizer to the face with an SPF of at least 15. Sun reduces the skin's resistance to bacterial attack.

Once your face (neck, and back too) are in the clear, patients must follow-up with a maintenance program.

Read an excerpt from his book:
1
Skin

"Dr. Terry Dubrow’s wife, Heather Paige Kent, star of the CBS drama That’s Life, awoke one morning, appalled. “Terry, look at my face! I’ve totally broken out. I’m due on the set in three days. Is there anything you can do?”

Of course, Heather knew that her husband, a board-certified plastic surgeon and director of the Acne Clinic of Newport Beach, California, had been working on protocols to cure acne quickly and safely. What she didn’t yet know was that he had finally found the answer. The panic she felt was based on her assumption that acne is only partially treatable, if at all.

That assumption is false. This is the truth:

Using the techniques outlined in this book,
acne can be completely eliminated in
95 percent of all cases even the most severe
ones in 6 weeks or less. These techniques start
to work in 24 hours.

In the remaining 5 percent of the cases, the Acne Cure program will generally reduce the severity of acne. Later in the book, we will discuss what additional steps you can take to get rid of the remaining traces of the disease - even in the toughest cases.

Whether you’re White, Black, Asian, or Hispanic; whether you’re a teenage boy with pimples or a mature man suffering from acne aggravated by razor bumps and ingrown beard hairs; whether you’re a teenage girl who feels she can’t get a date because of her zits, or a woman whose face is disfigured by the blotchy inflammation of severe acne, your condition can be cured.

When we say “cured,” we mean that in almost all cases -even the toughest - the acne cure program we describe in this book will eliminate virtually all blemishes, inflammation, redness, whiteheads, and blackheads within no more than 6 weeks. Milder cases may be resolved in only a few days or even - as in Heather’s case - overnight. Sure, there may be recurrences (although they are unlikely if you stick to the maintenance program), but they too can be rapidly resolved, usually in just a few days.

And if that isn’t a cure, we don’t know what is!

Some purists argue that getting rid of the symptoms but knowing that in some cases they may return means that this is not a full cure. All we know is that, like hundreds of Dr. Dubrow’s other patients, male and female, Heather’s acne disappeared. Three days after her skin eruptions, Heather went back to work with a smile on her face, and not a blemish in sight.

In the next few chapters, we will describe exactly how the cure works. However, first you have to understand what skin is, how it works, and what you can do to keep it healthy throughout your life. Not only is healthy skin less likely to be attacked by acne or other skin diseases, but it also looks so much better.

And who doesn’t want young-looking, healthy, glowing acne-free skin?

I totally agree with Asian Playboy.

i tried some substance called clearasil a while back and it dries out the pimple and leaves this white puss filled module that you just reflexively want to pop and it leaves a scar.

The stuff Asian Playboy recommends seems to clear it away better and leaves nothing to "pop" thus less belmishing and scarring.

I think stress has a lot to do with getting zits. I am an older guy (40 yrs) and I had zits all the time....I believe that it was stress. Kudos for Sarah Ann for mentioning "STRESS" :D Ever since discovering Mystery Method and ABCs --- stress has reduced quite a bit for me and I am enjoying myself more. Previously --- everytime I felt ready for a battle in the dating scene --- I would actually break out in zits  This was especially true if the girl you are targeting or dating was not producing the desired results. I would have at least one zit somewhere on my face every day since I was 20 ish!

These days --- the only time I get zits is if something in the field fracks me up and I end up isolated and go into an intense cognitve intorverted and anlytical mode which is as little as maybe once in the last 8 months. It has been about 9 months since I discovered Mystery and 6 months since I discovered ABCs. If your gaming is successful it will actually make you a happier person and the zits will stop as well.

it is almost "as if": IF you are having "issues" that these zit outbreaks are a way of telling the girls to stay away by telegraphing it unconsciously to girl via your skin that you are an unhealthy mate...thus no matter what "trickery" or lines you use -- that other forces balance things out....like as if to stay congruent or something. I hope that made sense :|

One pimple treatment technique I kinda discovered thats absolutely free and requires balls, is the COLD SHOWERS.

Basically its an intense cold shower technique where you avoid using hot water at all cost. So basically, straight cold showers. So for most showers for the week, just do not use hot water. Its doesn't just happen over one cold shower, but over multiple cold showers for a few weeks.
Now I don't claim it works for everyone (and that it requires discipline to use during winter), but for me it has helped reduces the breakout of pimples, and there are other benefits.

#The Pros of this Technique is:
- Cold water forces the blood vessels in your face to constrict, and can avoid your pores from opening up and releasing oil aka. pimples. Some beauticians say, to avoid hot water on the face, because it is not good for your skin.

-Lowering your body temperature can improve your immune system against colds/flus. There has been some medical articles on this, where patients exposed to extreme cold environments, can actually improve your immune system. Over time, you can avoid getting colds, due to a tougher immune system.
For most people not used to very cold environments, exposure to cold weather can lower their immune system (their body is not used to it), increasing their chances of getting a cold.

- You will probably use less water during showers, cause it is so cold :) Saves you money in the long term.

- It helps clear your thoughts, when you have had a bad day. Having a cold shower, can instantly shock your body, and if you think of positive thoughts to do with your goals, it can help with building inner game confidence :D

#The Cons of this Technique is:
- Cold showers during winter is tough! Some people can't handle cold water for long periods of time. But over time, your body can adapt. If you throw in a few cold showers in the week, this can still be beneficial.

- You may look more pale in the face, and your body, because your blood vessels are force to contract and less blood flows to the skin. After you wear cloths, you should regain your normal look (minus the achne).

- Cold water, may removal less oil and dirt from your skin, as you shower. At the beginning of the shower you can use warm (but not excessively hot steaming water), then switch to the cold shower.

I used this technique as a teenager, and I still remember my aunty, commenting how I had so little achne.
It's still an experimental technique, and I am going to do more testing into this, and will probably write a more detailed post on this technique.
